What do we do?
From awareness raising stalls and petitioning to organising and getting involved in national demos and mass actions, People and Planet members aim to make the world a greener, fairer, more sustainable place.
A few of the things we did last year include:
• Running a monthly 'Swap-Shop', where students can swap unwanted clothes, books, DVDS, accesories for other students' unwanted gems! We aim to continue the Swap Shops and make it a really trendy event this year.
• Campaigning to get the University to sign the People and Planet Green Education Declaration, a pledge to reduce CO2 emissions and fight for a greener education sector overall. The Declaration was signed by our Uni's Vice Chancellor in May, so now we have to work to see that its targets are reached.
• Campaigning against fossil fuel companies, Tar Sand Extraction in Canada and Fracking in general
• Protesting against Addidas having showed utter disrespect of Workers' Rights when it refused to pay its PT Kizone workers - this was also a success, as Addidas finally payed up after a week-end of demos People and Planet joined in with all over the UK (April 2013)
When do we meet?
If you want to get involved or just find out a bit more then come along to a meeting! They are every Tuesday in term time 6pm in New Roots, just behind the Union, and all students are welcome!
