What do we do?
From awareness raising stalls and petitioning to organising and getting involved in national demos and mass actions, People and Planet members aim to make the world a greener, fairer, more sustainable place.
A few of the things we did last year include:
• Running regular 'Swap-Shop' events, where students and members of the public can swap unwanted clothes, books, DVDS, accessories for other students' unwanted gems! We aim to continue the Swap Shop and make it even more popular this year.
• Campaigning to get the University of Sheffield to affiliate to Electronics Watch, a workers led monitoring system of the electronics manufacturing industry, in order to stamp out labour abuses in the UoS electronics supply chain.
• Campaigning against fossil fuel companies, including demonstrations at Barclays Bank to challenge their funding of fossil fuel companies and visits to the Protector's Camp at Preston New Road Fracking site.
• Working alongside other societies in the Sustainability Network to help push for and elevate the University's first ever 'Sustainability Strategy' which will be implemented in September 2018.
When do we meet?
If you want to get involved or just find out a bit more then come along to a meeting! They are every Tuesday in term time 6pm in New Roots, on Glossop Road (just behind the SU) and everyone is welcome!
