This is one of the most pressing issues of our time and as a university we could take a leading stand. Divesting from fossil fuels is one of the most influential actions we could take in tackling climate change and environmental sustainability issues. Universities such as Glasgow and Bedfordshire have already divested showing it is possible. I strongly urge the University of Sheffield to do the same and set an example for everybody at this university and worldwide.

I very strongly support the 'fossil free' campaign. Global warming is an issue of the utmost importance and urgency, and universities should take radical action. The crisis we have is so serious that the only solution is for the oil to stay in the ground. I wish I could feel proud of being part of an institution that leads the way on the fight against global warming and for greater democratization of energy use.

It is very important that firm action is taken to reduce/end fossil fuel usage immediately if we are to prevent catastrophic environmental changes. As a forward-thinking university I feel it is our responsibility to

...make a stand on this issue and commit to the divestment campaign. This is not only an environmental issue, but a humanitarian one, as people worldwide will be adversely affected by climate change and the poorest regions of the world are likely to suffer the worst. I feel very strongly that Sheffield should support this campaign.

I fully support this divestment scheme for The University of Sheffield. Climate change is one of the major challenges facing the human race, and as such, deserves the University's full attention. Whilst I recognise the difficulties involved in going 'fossil free', I believe that this is something we can and should work towards. I am proud that our students are so passionate about this global issue and believe that we should fully support them.

As one of the leading universities in the UK, we have a unique opportunity to set an example openly based on scientific evidence. We should be using this to full potential. I fully support this divestment scheme and the students pushing for it.

We must act more to protect our future environment and divesting from fossil fuel is an important aspect of this which I broadly support. The University of Sheffield makes a significant contribution to the futures of many in providing education and skills to its students and so by divesting in fossil fuels it can enhance its contribution and also act in a way that is not deleterious to that future.

The University is providing leadership on this issue through initiatives like Project Sunshine. Surely divestment would be the only consistent strategy?

I agree that this is an issue worth consideration. I can only echo the comments left by colleagues here on this website. The University is in a privileged position to support and facilitate a strategy that will help to preserve the planet for our future generations.

The University has a stated philosophy of engaging with the outside world and trying to make it a better place - it should reflect this in its investment decisions.
